How the pharmacy dispense portal works

Every signed GetClinic prescription gets a unique, secure dispense token and QR code. This allows any UK pharmacy to verify and dispense the prescription without needing a GetClinic account.

The flow

  1. Prescriber signs a prescription → a unique token (e.g. A3KX9PZ2TW) is generated
  2. The QR code and token appear on the prescription detail page in GetClinic
  3. The prescriber prints the PDF or shares the token/URL with the patient
  4. The patient takes the token to any pharmacy in the UK
  5. The pharmacist visits app.getclinic.io/rx/[TOKEN] or scans the QR code
  6. The portal shows the full verified prescription details
  7. The pharmacist can download a Preview Copy (watermarked) to verify details
  8. To dispense, the pharmacist clicks Download Original, fills in the dispense form, and confirms

Dispense form fields (pharmacy)

  • Pharmacy Name — the name of the dispensing pharmacy
  • Pharmacist Name — the dispensing pharmacist's full name
  • GPhC Number — the pharmacist's GPhC registration number
  • Patient ID Verified (optional) — e.g. "Passport", "Driving Licence"

After dispensing

  • The prescription status in GetClinic updates to DISPENSED
  • Date, time, pharmacy name, and pharmacist details are recorded permanently
  • The token URL shows an "Already Dispensed" page to anyone who visits it again
  • The original prescription PDF can no longer be downloaded
